Robbie Blair Wins Phantom Fireworks Big Bang 50

The 2nd annual Phantom Fireworks Big Bang 50 at Moler Raceway Park marked the initial visit of the IRS Late Models to the southern Ohio speed plant. In qualifications, West Virginia native Tim Dohm took top honors of the 27 cars in attendance with a 13.799 lap. In heat race action Rick Auckland, Bill Williams, Barry Doss, and Duane Chamberlain each taking the wins. While in the IRS fast car dash, IRS Point Leader Robbie Blair took the win with Jesse Lay taking the B-main. Following a great fireworks show courtesy of Phantom Fireworks it was feature time and there was great racing action with IRS regulars Dave Hess Jr leading the way and Tim Dohm, Robbie Blair and MRP regulars John Whitney and Bill Williams all battling hard for the 2nd thru 5th positions. After numerous midrace cautions it looked as though Hess was in control but Robbie Blair got by on lap 30 and went on to take the 50 lap feature event and the $5000 paycheck. Hess held on to 2nd followed by John Whitney, Tim Dohm, and Bill Williams.

In the Cheapbowlingballs.com Modified event it was newcomer Donnie Adams of London, KY taking home the top prize. Adams started the night by winning his heat race and continued the night by leading all 20 laps in taking home the 22 car A-main event. Shaun Scott managed to come home in 2nd place with Ray Branscum coming home 3rd. Jeremie Bretz made his initial visit to MRP successful as he was able to make a late run to place 4th after restarting from the tail of the field for contact with 5th place finisher Jim Hilligas earlier in the event. Scott and Hilligas each won each races.

In the Phantom Fireworks Pure Stock division it was another newcomer taking the win. Dana Moore of Crittenden, Ky made a rare visit to MRP a successful one as he won not only his heat race but the 16 car feature event as well. It didn’t look like it was going to be so easy as heat race winner Ed Reynolds had his machine up front but Dan Moore was able to power by and take the win. Ed Reynolds held on for 2nd followed by Derrick Davis, Tim Carpenter, and Kevin Hess rounding out the top 5 positions.

In the MRP Chevette class it was much more of the same but some different circumstances as Georgetown, Ohio’s Miles Tarvin continued his dominance in the class winning his 7 feature in a row. It was far from easy as Blake Naylor jumped into a borrowed ride and gave Tarvin a run for his money. Naylor won his heat and earned and outside pole starting position in the feature. At the drop of the green Naylor would get the jump on Tarvin but Miles was able to get back by Naylor on lap 2. With Naylor in hot pursuit Chris Vance took a wild ride as he barrel rolled his #99 machine in turn two. Vance was reportedly uninjuried. Shortly after the restart another caution flew for debris and Naylor in the #27 machine had the right front suspension break. Tarvin went on uncontested from there to win in his Rent-n-Roll, Cenpeco, Positive Therapy Services LLC, Midnight Run Trucking sponsored machine. Kevin Riggs came home 2nd followed by Jeff Watson, Rusty Yarger, and Don Ellis.
