Davey Johnson, Steve Baker Pick Up Wins a Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway, as do Mike Pegher, Jr., Kevin Miller, Jake Simmons, Eric Goldberg and Daniel White on August 16, 2008

Greensburg, PA's Davey Johnson won an exciting 25 lap Pizza Hut Late Model main in the make up feature from July 12. The race was restarted with one lap down, with Al Atallah leading, Steve Baker in second and Mike Johnson in third. Atallah grabbed the lead at the start with Baker right behind and Mike Johnson in third. The front trio ran that way until the first caution appeared on lap four for Lou Bradich who had a flat tire but was able to return. On the restart Davey Johnson, who started fifth, moved into third. Meanwhile Keith Barbara, who started eighth, was on the move and was up to fourth. Barbara moved into third on lap six, and into second on lap seven. Barbara then battled for the top spot with Atallah. Barbara got by Atallah for the top spot on lap 9, but unfortunately for him the lead was short lived as something broke in his engine on the next lap and he was done for the night. Atallah was back on top, and now Baker challenged him for the lead. The pair went at it, with Baker moving in front on lap 15, with Atallah ahead again on lap 16. Baker's strong run came to an end on lap 18 when he broke a left side lower shock mount and slowed. In the meantime Lou Bradich slowed with engine woes and Jared Miley spun bringing out the yellow. On the restart Davey Johnson in second and fourth running John Flinner moved by Atallah for first. Johnson led the remaining laps with Flinner right behind. Atallah ended up third followed by Mike Johnson, Lynn Geisler, Jim Lepro, Ben Miley, Keith Rodriguez, Brandon Burgoon, and Jared Miley. It was Johnson's first win for car owner Bill Stile, Sr., and his 42nd career PPMS win and first since August 14, 2005.

In the night's second Pizza Hut Late Model feature, Fairmont, WV's Steve Baker won his fifth feature of 2008. Kyle Lukon grabbed the lead at the start and led the first three laps, when the first caution appeared for Danny Rich and Jim Stephens, who tangled going into turn three. On the restart Lukon was still leading, with John Flinner in second, Jared Miley in third and seventh starting Steve Baker up to fourth. On lap five, Flinner made his move and took the lead, and Miley and Baker also moved by. Flinner was out front, while Miley and Baker began to battle for second. A pair of cautions on lap 9 closed things up. On the restart Baker was able to move into second and set out after Flinner. Baker closed the gap on Flinner and actually moved ahead on lap 19, only to have Flinner regain the top spot. Baker continued to closely follow Flinner and made his move on lap 23 using the high line coming off turn four and taking the lead for good. Baker led the remaining laps to pick up the win in an exciting finish. Flinner was second, with Jared Miley in for third followed by Lynn Geisler, Brandon Burgoon, who charged from twelfth, Lukon, Kari Gasser, Davey Johnson, hard charger Al Atallah, who came up from 17th, and Ed Ferree. It was Baker's 35th career PPMS win. Twenty-seven Lates were on hand, and the heats fell to Lynn Geisler, Jared Miley and Brandon Burgoon.

In the Brougher's Speed Shop Crate Late Models, Mike Pegher, Jr. Wexford PA picked up his fourth win of the season. In another great feature, Pegher led the entire 20 laps, but it was not an easy win. Pegher grabbed the lead from his outside front row starting spot, with Jason Rider quickly moving into second. Rider, one of the top winners in the class during the past two seasons, quietly returned to action last week after missing most of the season. Rider showed he had not lost any of his touch as he challenged Pegher for the top spot. Russ Kolesar moved into third, with Daryl Charlier following. Last week's winner and red-hot Tommy Schirnhofer, Jr. charged thru the field and was up to fifth by lap 5. The race became a five-car battle for the top spots, as they were separated by inches. Schirnhofer moved into fourth on lap six but brushed the front straight wall on lap 11 and fell back to fifth. Rider continued to challenge Pegher for the lead. Russ Kolesar moved by Rider on lap 14, but Rider got it back on the next lap. Rider bobbled in tight racing on lap 16 and fell back to seventh, while Schirnhofer moved up to third. Schirnhofer moved by Kolesar for second on lap 17, and went after Pegher, but Pegher was able to hold him off for the remaining laps. At the line, it was Pegher, Schirnhofer (for their fifth one-two finish in the last 7 events), Charlier, Kolesar, Rider, Mark Moats, Jr., Rocky Kugel, Justin Lamb, Ken Chernik, and Laura Lukon. Russ Kolesar and Ken Chernik picked up the heats for the 21 cars on hand.

Toronto, OH's Kevin Miller was the surprise winner of the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods. Clayton Kennedy led the 1st lap, with Tom Martineck taking over on lap 2. Martineck led until lap 9, when seventh starting Wayne Tessean took over. Miller moved into second on lap 10, coming from eighth. Tessean led the remaining laps and looked to have picked up his seventh win but was docked two spots at the finish for jumping on a restart. That gave Miller first, for his third win of the season. Martineck ended up second with Tessean third, followed by Bruce Dreistadt, Kyle Lukon, Chuck Kennedy, Daryl Charlier, Joel Johns, Clayton Kennedy, and Frank Magill. J.E. Stalder and Wayne Tessean took the heat wins.

McKees Rocks, PA's Jake Simmons picked up his third win of the season in the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks. Mike Mohn led the first lap but ended up against the wall on lap two and brought out the yellow. Bobby Heim led the next lap on the restart but was passed by Simmons on lap three. Simmons led the remaining laps to pick up the win. Nick Kocuba charged from 12th to second but pitted on lap 13. This put Bill Robertson in second and he held it to the end. Pat Weldon ended up third followed by Bob Schwartzmiller, Heim, Charlie DiLoreto, Russell Volponi, Dave McManus, Mitch Wattlelet, and Don Bauerle, Jr. Craig Kamicker and Nick Kocuba picked up the heat victories for the 19 cars on hand.

Eric Goldberg, the hard charger from Pittsburgh, PA, won his fourth feature of the season in the Flynn's Tire and Auto Amateur Stocks. Gary Koteles grabbed the lead on the outset, with Eric Goldberg in second. Koteles led the first two laps before Goldberg took over. Brian Huchko moved into second and chased Goldberg but spun on lap 8 and dropped out. Koteles moved back into second at that point and at the finish it was Goldberg, Koteles, Rich Mason, J.J. O'Patchen, Jason Herniak, Tom McQuillan, Dan Duseheid, Huchko, and Tony White (who dropped out early with mechanical problems). Gary Koteles won the heat.

In the Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns, a new winner appeared as Daniel White, from Carnegie, PA, picked up the win, his career first. White grabbed the lead on lap one and never looked back leading the entire distance. Todd Janus was second at the finish followed by Shawn Graham, Brian Beyerbach, Justin Pons, Hannah Ramsey, Alec Broniszewski and Tyler Carson.
