SOUTH MISSISSIPPI SPEEDWAY JOINS THE NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES

South Mississippi Speedway in Biloxi, MS has joined the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for the 2009 season. The competitors in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Late Model Division at South Mississippi Speedway will compete for two point funds, and other special contingency awards during the 2009 season that runs from April 3 through October 4.

In addition to competing for a track point fund, NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series drivers at South Mississippi Speedway drivers will also compete for Regional points by putting their best 16 finishes of the season up against drivers at other series tracks in the Region through a points system.

The NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Regional Champions will receive a $1,500 cash award, a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine, and a new race car chassis.

The top 10 drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division at South Mississippi Speedway will also be eligible for post-season competition with an invitation to the 4th Annual NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Fall Nationals at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on November 27-28, and the Track Champion will compete in the Race of Champions.

“I have had a lot of interest from the drivers in the Crate Late Model Division that the track should sanction with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series,” South Mississippi Speedway Owner Pete Natale said. “I really think this is going to be a positive move for the drivers in this division with the series tech and P.R. support.”

Several drivers from the South Mississippi area were in contention for the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region championship, and the addition of South Mississippi Speedway will enhance their chances for success in 2009.

“With the sagging economy, the inexpensive GM Performance Crate Engine for dirt late model racing is taking a strong hold in Southeastern weekly dirt track racing,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “This is especially true in Mississippi, as South Mississippi Speedway has become the eighth Magnolia State weekly dirt track to sign on with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series.”

South Mississippi Speedway joins Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS, Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, MS, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS, and Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS as a part of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series.

Dirt Late Models competing in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series throughout the country utilize the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. These engines are shipped to GM dealers throughout the country.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series makes two of the GM Performance Crate Engines available for use in series events. The 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine costs just over $5,200.00 and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine costs just over $3,200.00 and gets a 150-pound weight break.

Both racing engines are available at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA with free delivery anywhere in the Southeast. NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series members from South Mississippi Speedway will also be eligible to earn NeSmith Chevrolet Loyalty Rewards points for purchases made at the dealership, with the top two point earners in the country winning all inclusive vacations to Cancun, Mexico.

South Mississippi Speedway is a clay oval that operates on Saturday night. The track is located just off I-10 at Exit 24.
