After an exciting weekend at Lakeside Speedway the Lucas Oil MLRA points championship race is on everyone's mind. Brad Looney remains out front by only two points, after a disappointing 10th place finish on Saturday night. Looney might still have a trick or two up his sleeve to keep his Federal Protection sponsored, 14L in the top spot. The Shark, Al Purkey had two solid third place finishes at Lakeside, putting him close on Looney's bumper.Purkey has six Lucas Oil MLRA Points Championships under his belt, and knows exactly what it takes to get out front. Dave Eckrich lost traction over the weekend and is in the third position by 22 points. Eckrich has time to make up ground with three points events left. Joe Kosiski is sitting comfortably in 4th.
The Andy's Frozen Custurd team of Terry Phillips and Jeremy Payne are in 5th and 6th positions, respectively. Rookie of the Year contender Evan Hubert remains in 7th, with 2008 Lucas Oil MLRA Points Champion John Anderson in 8th. Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen sits in the 9th position with driver of the 77A and Rookie of the Year candidate, Justin Asplin rounding out the top ten. A few drivers are just outside the top ten including, Bill Koons, Alan Vaughan, Chris Speiker and JD Hubert. Although few opportunities for advancement are left, all drivers are anxious to get to the track and see what the remainder of the season holds.
